Cue — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-11-08
Cue (“the app”, “we”) is an AI photography coach for Android. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and your choices.
Summary
- Your photos and videos stay on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers or stored by us.
- To coach you in real time and to score a shot, the app sends camera frames to our processing service, which forwards them to a third-party AI provider for analysis. Frames are used to generate coaching and are not retained for training.
- We store coaching results (scores, lessons, progress) tied to your account so your progress persists across devices.
- Optional analytics and crash reporting help us improve the app; these can be absent in your build.
What we collect
Account data. When you create an account we process your email address and an authentication token. You can also use the app with an anonymous session (no email). If you choose Sign in with Google, we receive your Google account’s email address, name and profile picture URL (OpenID Connect basic profile) only to create and sign in to your Cue account. Authentication is provided by Supabase (Supabase, Inc.).
Camera frames (transient). While coaching is active and when you capture a photo, the app sends individual image frames to our backend (“vision-proxy”), which calls a third-party large-language/vision model (Google Gemini) to produce guidance and a score. Frames are processed to generate that response and are not stored by us after the response is returned, and are not used to train models.
Coaching & progress data. We store the results of analysis — numeric scores, textual tips, lesson identifiers, streaks and trends — associated with your account. This data is metadata about your photos; it does not include the photos themselves.
Photos/videos on device. Captured media is saved to your device storage and shown in the app (e.g. recent-shot thumbnails). It is not transmitted to or stored by us beyond the transient frame analysis described above.
Diagnostics (optional). If enabled in your build, we use PostHog (product analytics) and Sentry (crash reporting) to collect app usage events and crash logs. These contain no photo content.
Purchases. Cue Premium subscriptions are billed by Google Play. Subscription status is synced through RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) to your Cue account; we receive the product, trial and renewal status, never your payment details. Manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Google Play › Subscriptions.
How we use it
- Provide real-time coaching, scoring, and lessons.
- Persist and sync your progress to your account.
- Maintain, secure, and improve the app (diagnostics).
- Process subscriptions (if applicable).
Use of Google user data
Cue’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google account data (email, name, profile picture) is used only to authenticate you in Cue; it is not sold, not used for advertising and not shared except with Supabase, which hosts authentication on our behalf.
Sharing
We share data only with service providers acting on our behalf: Supabase (auth + database hosting), Google (Gemini) (frame analysis), and, if enabled, PostHog, Sentry, and RevenueCat. We do not sell your data.
Permissions
- Camera — required, for the viewfinder and coaching.
- Internet / network state — to reach the coaching service.
- Microphone, storage/media — only if you use related features (e.g. video); the app works without granting optional permissions.
Data retention & deletion
Coaching/progress data is kept while your account is active. To request deletion of your account and associated data, email [email protected]. Transient camera frames are not retained after analysis.
Children
Cue is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region) and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Your rights
Depending on your region you may request access, correction, or deletion of your data, or withdraw consent. Contact [email protected].
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date.
